Crystal Canney is known as the person to call when you are facing a tough political campaign, a crisis in your company or need to review your strategy in order to bring positive attention to your business.

Her political success has seen huge wins, most recently in Nov. of 2010. She led a team to vicotry in the Biddeford Racino project with a 60/40 vote in favor. In 2009, she was the communications director for two referendum campaigns simultaneously winning the anti-tabor referndum by a 60/40 margin and the excise tax effort by 65/35 margin. Both were statewide campaigns.

Prior to starting Canney Communications, she was a national award-winning journalist. She was a reporter for 20 years in Maine and Massachusetts.  Among her many awards, she received first place in the country from the Annie E. Casey Foundation for her series of reports on impoverished children.  She has won numerous Associated Press, Maine Association of Broadcasters awards and was nominated for an Emmy. She was also the first Maine journalist to report from New York City live during 9/11 and was in New Orleans and Gulfport, Mississippi covering Hurricane Katrina.

Canney left journalism in 2005 to be the Communications Director for Governor John Baldacci. Her work involved policy, messaging, and imaging. She was appointed in 2007 to Associate Commissioner of Finance where she oversaw multi-million dollar budgets and a staff of 350 people. Together, they provided human resources, finance and personnel for the largest agencies in state government.

Canney Communications opened November 4, 2009,  the day after the election.
